The Avinashilingam Education Trust, which runs the
Avinashilingam University, has on July 21 submitted a Memorandum of Agreement
(MoA) to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is awaiting a response,
says Life-time Trustee K. Kulandaivel.
In the MoA, it has submitted that the Trust should continue
as the sponsoring society for the University. The Trust is, however, open to
changes in the way the Chancellor should be appointed.
At the time of submission, the UGC asked the Trust to get
its Governing System and Management System approved by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development and the process is underway as the Trust has not received
any further communication, he adds.
Meanwhile, the Director, Department of Higher Education,
Ministry of Human Resource Development, has written to the Secretary, UGC, on
August 20 saying that it may as per the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be
Universities) Regulations, 2010, and subsequent amendments approve of the MoA
the Avinashilingam University has submitted as the Trust is a private body and
that it does not come under either the Central and State government, reported
