IIM Bangalore (IIMB) concluded its summer placements for the Class of 2013 with 123 companies, of which 40 were first-time visitors, offering internships to 368 students. Of these, more than 85 students are expected to intern abroad. The IIMB Summer Internship process was completed in eight slots spread over five days, during which a total of 464 offers were made. Ten students with more than 34 months of work experience opted out of summer internship to pursue other opportunities.
According to Professor P D Jose, Chairperson, Office of Career Development Services, IIM Bangalore,”This year we did not witness any slowing of demand for our students, and placed the largest-yet cohort of students. It was also heartening to see the number of first-time companies on campus, most of whom were from the FMCG, manufacturing, technology and services sectors. Overseas assignments were also numerous, attesting to the performance and diversity of the batch.”
While the financial services segment absorbed around 33% of all students, 17% of acceptances were in the management consulting sector. Sales & marketing accounted for 32% of the cohort, and offers in general management/leadership areas were about 11%. First-time companies on campus included Dentsu, Supermax, Abbott, Amazon, Narayana Hrudalaya, SAP, The Times Group, Yatra.com, Cleartrip.com and Duferco. International internship offers were based out of Australia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and USA.
“This year a larger number of Private Equity and Venture Capital companies visited the campus and made offers to students from the diverse talent pool at IIMB. This can be attributed to IIMB’s strategic location in Bangalore as well as the experience profiles of our students. ” said S Karthikeyan, a PGP2 student member of Placement Committee.
