Dutta has resigned from his post by sending his resignation to the chancellor against VC’s decision to call police in campus.

In his letter to the governor, Dutta mentions that
he was “never consulted” about calling police to the campus that
fateful night. He had said the same thing the day after the violence, pointing
out that he had faced 50-odd gheraos in his 32 years as teacher and eight years
as pro-VC but never had to call police.
By quitting as pro-VC, Dutta dissociated himself
from the VC’s decision to call police. His move was in response to
