The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is
likely to issue advertisements inviting applications for the post of Jamia
Millia Islamia University Vice Chancellor.
The post has been vacant since former VC Najeeb Jung
was appointed as the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi in July this year.
The search committee for appointment of Jamia VC on
October 28 decided to advertise for applications “as there is a general
tendency now to advertise for such positions, although it is not mandatory.”
In September, more than 300 Jamia teachers wrote to
the President of India, also the Visitor of the university, requesting his
intervention in the process of appointment of the next VC. In the letter, the
teachers emphasised the need to appoint “an academician of high repute and
integrity” as the next Vice Chancellor.
