The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is set to announce a fact-finding committee to look into all issues that are troubling students and teachers at the Visva-Bharati University.
Reportedly, a fact-finding committee was already set up but due to some technical hitch we are reconstituting it. It should be done soon.
The Ministry is getting feedback from students and teachers but it will not take any action without a non-partisan report. The ministry had earlier decided to set up a fact-finding committee under Vrinda Sarup, but after she became secretary of school education and literacy, it was decided that another official would head it.
“Generally, secretary-rank officers don’t do fact-finding work,” a source said.
For the second consecutive working day, all classes at Visva-Bharati University remained suspended as teachers, students, former students and even parents continued their agitation outside the central office of the university.
Vice Chancellor Sushanta Dutta Gupta, at whom the agitation is directed, did not return to campus.
“We will not give in easily and will continue to strike indefinitely, till the VC returns to the campus, takes cognizance of our demands,” said committee spokesperson, Kishore Bhattacharya, reported ToI.
