The Ministry of Human Resource Development in association with the Central Board of Secondary Education awarded more than Rs.2 crore to over 200 students in the country to promote meritorious students in CBSE-affiliated government schools.
In order to promote the meritorious students of the Government Schools affiliated to CBSE, the Board has instituted a Reward Scheme.
Under the scheme 200 students, 50 each from Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational streams getting high scores in class-XII are given a one-time cash reward of Rs.1,00,000/- (One Lakh Only) each.
Reservation for SC/ST/PWD is applicable as per Government of India guidelines.
Union Minister, Ministry of HRD, Dr. M. M. Pallam Raju said, “Such ventures and awards of the Board put impetus on the actual merit of students instead of the face value of marks. They help motivate students to take up higher education and not drop out of school.”
Backed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Central Board of Secondary Education has been focussing on providing quality education to students. In lieu with its objective, the Board has been innovating its curriculum with various reforms to formulate a syllabus which is student friendly and imparts real learning.
With a similar goal, the Board also introduced a unique assessment pattern amongst its schools – Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE). Having received a mixed bag of reviews, CCE is an evaluation pattern that helps to assess students at regular intervals and steers them away from rote learning.
“Such scholarships are incentives for students to take education more seriously and leverage it to develop themselves. They help inspire students to study further and focus on knowledge instead of marks,” pointed out Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE.
“We are felicitating students with AAA grades. For me their grades have a different meaning – Aspiration, Accountability, Achievement. These students are an example of hard work and sincerity,” beamed Rajarshri Bhattacharya, Secretary, School Education and Literacy.
