The 151-year-old Patna College teachers have
demanded its conversion into a full-fledged university.
Several colleges younger than this college in the
country have already been converted into universities or accorded the status of
‘deemed universities’, they claimed.
This demand was made at a meeting of the Patna
College Staff Club under the chairmanship of principal Ras Bihari Prasad Singh.
The meet pointed out the premier institution has not
only shaped the direction of higher education in the eastern region but also
cast a significant impact on the various socio-cultural changes in modern
India. It would be in the fitness of things if the college is converted into a
university to restore its past glory.
The teachers, who attended the meeting, urged the
central and state governments to initiate necessary steps for according this
college the status of a university and also appealed to all its alumni, most of
whom are occupying top positions in different walks of life, to make concerted
efforts towards this direction, reported Times of India.
