The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has set up eight
member committee with Governors of states as its members to improve the quality
of higher education in the country.
The first ever meeting of the governor’s committee on
improving quality of higher education was recently held in Mumbai with Maharashtra
Governor, K Sankaranarayanan as the head of the committee.
The other governor’s who are members of the committee
include Dr D Y Patil from Bihar, Nikhil Kumar from Kerala, Bharat Vir Wanchu
from Goa, Jagannath Pahadia from Haryana, Lt-governor from Delhi Najib Jang and
the governor of Andaman-Nicobar and Puducheri.
Amongst the issues discussed were the appointments of Vice Chancellors,
the unavailability of trained and experienced teachers, improving students’
grades, providing student loans and creating an environment for research.
The committee will submit its report to the President,
reported Times of India.
