An instituion from Odisha has appeared in the fresh list of fake universties publishe by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The apex higher education monitoring body under the HRD Ministry has identified Nababharat Siksha Parishad (NSP) in Rourkela as a fake university and warned students to refrain from enrolling in it.
Last month, the UGC had informed the Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha in this regard which in turn had directed the Regional Director of Education, Sambalpur to conduct inquiry and file an FIR against the institution head. After submission of an action taken report, the UGC went ahead to declare NSP as a fake university as it does not comply with the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
According to the Act, only universities established by the Central/State/Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the Act are allowed to call themselves as university.
Therefore, any institution that does not comply with the above rule is prohibited from using the term ‘university’ under Section 23 of the Act reported New Indian Express.
